Driveway Snow Melt Systems
Concrete and asphalt driveways provide you and your family with a durable place to drive and park for most the year. But once winter arrives, they begin to require more attention. Shoveling your driveway in the freezing cold gets old fast, especially when each day could bring a new coating of snow. Winter can also make your driveway very icy, which can be dangerous for you and your family. Salting and scraping off the ice can be very time consuming, and plowing your driveway can be costly and could cause damage to your concrete. Tired of shoveling? It may be time to consider adding a snow melting system to your home to remove snow and ice without breaking your back.
Martinov Home Solutions offers a variety of radiant snow melt systems. Stay warm and comfortable inside your home this winter instead of spending your evening plowing, shoveling or de-icing your driveway with a Martinov driveway snow melt system.
Types of Driveway Snow Melting Systems
Typically, a driveway snow melt system entails embedding a heating element into the asphalt or concrete slab in your driveway. The heating element has a sensor that detects the outdoor temperatures and moisture. These snow melt systems are usually installed into new asphalt or new slabs before the concrete is poured, however, the heating elements can also be fitted into an existing driveway.
There are two different types of snow melting systems available for driveways and walkways. At Martinov Home Solutions, we will work with you to find the right solution for your home and budget.
- Hydronic Snow Melting System: This system includes a heating element that is made of closed-loop tubing, which circulates a mixture of antifreeze and water. The fluid is warmed to a temperature that is warm enough to melt snow and ice. This snow melting system is also built to have a long service life. While usually more expensive to install, hydronic heating systems have greater flexibility in power source options.
- Electric Snow Melting Systems: Unlike hydronic snow melting systems, electric systems use hot wires to heat your driveway. The wires are surrounded in insulation, a protective layer of PVC and a copper grounding braid.
- Electric Heating Mats: Electric heating mats contain pre-spaced heating elements that are unrolled and installed in your driveway.
- Electric Cable Systems: Cable systems allow you to heat an area of any shape or size with a wire that is run back and forth across the desired area. If you have a driveway with odd angles, the electric cable system may be the best option for you.
